Electronic waste, also known as “e-waste” is created by discarded electronic components that are replaced when they become obsolete or stop functioning. The rate of technological increase has made e-waste a serious global problem, with very little infrastructure in place to ensure that it doesn’t end up filling landfills and polluting the environment. Lighting upgrades can create an astounding amount of e-waste. To counter this, USIGT retrofits lighting upgrades into existing fixtures whenever possible, saving the existing fixtures from ending up in landfills.
Retrofitting is the process of reusing as much of the existing physical housing components as possible, and replacing just the obsolete electronic components. USIGT’s products are installed by removing old ballasts, bulbs and bases from existing fixtures and replacing them with cutting-edge technology. This allows our clients to receive the benefits of upgraded lighting without having to purchase new fixtures and throw the old ones away, and decreases e-waste.
Our commitment to reducing environmental impact does not end at retrofitting. Despite our best efforts, many jobs still create waste. To counter this, USIGT works with contractors to ensure that anything that can be recycled is. This further minimizes e-waste and ensures that as little waste as possible ends up in landfills.
