On June 15th 2010, USIGT, in conjunction with the property owner, retrofitted the existing lighting at the Holiday Business Center in Fresno, CA with Ultra Constant Discharge (UCD) bulbs/ballasts. The project at the facility consisted of retrofitting two 250-Watt HPS lights at the entrances with 120-Watt UCD configurations, four 1000-Watt MH shoebox fixtures on 20’ standards for the parking lot lighting with 120-Watt UCD configurations and three 400-Watt MH Security Floods at the back of the buildings with 100-Watt UCD configurations. Retrofit time per fixture was less than one hour per fixture with standard hand tools and can be performed by any electrician or maintenance personnel. All comparative measurements and photographs were taken at identical times of day and from the same physical location.
The original lighting load was 5.7kW. This retrofit project reduced the load to 1.02kW, which is an 80% decrease in power required for the parking lot and security lighting. There was a 10% improvement in foot-candle measurements and light dispersion. The outstanding color rendering of UCD technology increased the effective light and more closely resembles actual daylight conditions (CRI ~ 90Ra).
