On November 9th 2012, USIGT, in conjunction with D5 Enterprises, retrofitted the existing High Pressure Sodium (HPS) parking lot lighting, parking structure and service corridor fixtures at The Shops at River Park Class A Main Street, Lifestyle & Entertainment Retail Center for Lance- Kashian & Company in Fresno, CA with CeramaTek (C-Tek) and Ultra Constant Discharge (UCD Xenon) bulbs/ballasts. The project consisted of retrofitting (93) 1,000 Watt HPS parking lot fixtures to 375 Watt CeramaTek, (16) 400 Watt HPS shoebox fixtures to 140 Watt CeramaTek, (73) 100 Watt HPS wall pack fixtures to 45 Watt CeramaTek and (121) 150 Watt HPS garage canopy type fixtures with 60 Watt UCD Xenon. After consulting with the owner, Ed Kashian, and his team, the goal of the project was to provide the highest quality light as possible while maximizing energy savings. CeramaTek and UCD Xenon were selected as the preferred technologies due to their performance, light output, energy savings and aggressive Returns on Investment. Retrofit time per fixture was less than one hour per fixture with standard hand tools and can be performed by any electrician or maintenance personnel. A ladder truck was needed for the parking lot fixtures that are mounted +/- 30’ above finish grade. Existing parking lot circuits were converted from 480 volt to 277 volt.
The original lighting load was 621.02kW. This retrofit project reduced the load to 219.97kW, which is an 64.60% decrease in power required for the parking lot,
parking structure and service corridor lighting. The environmental impact of this retrofit was the equivalent of
removing 47.8 cars from US roadways and an estimated carbon footprint reduction of 268.7 tons. With the outstanding color rendering index of Ceramatek and UCD lamps, the quality of light in the parking lot areas is outstanding. Retrofitting existing fixtures with eHID high efficiency technology allows facilities to maintain the same high quality of light intended in the original design. Additionally, utilizing existing fixtures eliminates unnecessary waste to landfills. High efficiency CeramaTek kits produce an industry leading 120 Lumens per Watt (Lm/W) with 95% lumen maintenance at 50% of lamp life, and UCD Xenon technology produces (108 Lm/W) allowing for substantial reductions in wattage required per fixture.. The outstanding color rendering of both CeramaTek and UCD Xenon technology increases the effective light and more closely resembles actual daylight conditions.
